Finding the right child psychologist can be difficult. Finding someone who knows how to put your child at ease is essential — someone with extensive experience working with children and who cares about the wellbeing of your children. The good news is that if you are looking for a child psychologist, you have already found one.

Our Approach to Child Psychology & Counselling

We offer various psychological services to improve your child’s emotional state. We begin with play therapy. This puts your child at ease, and we can access important information about their thoughts and feelings without them having to tell us in words. Whatever the problem, we offer a supportive and calming environment to understand what your child is going through fully.

A Life Logic offers psychometric assessments and a special anxiety management program for children between the ages of 6 and 16. Our Kenmore-based child psychologist and counselling services can be beneficial on their own or in tandem with speech therapists, occupational therapists or psychologists.

Causes of Depression & Anxiety in Children

In particular, A Life Logic focuses on the following child psychologist services:

  • Counselling for anxiety in a range of areas
  • Counselling for children being bullied
  • Counselling for delayed development – specifically assistance with learning difficulties
  • Assistance for children who have identifiable disorders, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)
  • Counselling for children with sleeping issues
  • Counselling for coping with family separation or divorce

Most psychological and emotional challenges faced by children are often avoidable and treatable. Children are growing, and new worlds are unfolding in front of their eyes – it is normal for children to experience internal issues with all the changes happening around them.

Remember: childhood is very important in a person’s life – what happens in childhood can profoundly influence one’s future ability to cope with the daily challenges of adulthood.

A child’s experience growing from childhood to adulthood impacts their actions and feelings. In fact, these experiences and events help shape the adult that a child develops into. Since these experiences are happening around them, it mostly affects their emotional and mental growth and, to some extent, their social behaviours.

Common Symptoms of Children with Depression & Anxiety

According to the ADAA, children with depression may display these symptoms:

  • Depressed or irritable mood
  • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
  • Change in grades, getting into trouble at school, or refusing to go to school
  • Change in eating habits
  • Feeling angry or irritable
  • Mood swings
  • Feeling worthless or restless
  • Frequent sadness or crying
  • Withdrawing from friends and activities
  • Loss of energy
  • Low self-esteem
  • Thoughts of death or suicide

One cause of depression in children could be from school, where they are trying to adjust to the constant challenges of their environment, especially if it is a new school.

Bullying is also another cause of psychological problems in children. The more vulnerable they are, the more bullied they can be. An important solution to such an issue would require counselling for both the bully and the bullied.

Family experiences and events like divorce, separation or death can have a heavy impact on a child’s psychological health. Good counselling from a professional psychologist will enable a child to become emotionally and mentally strong, which in turn will enable them to cope with issues and, in the end, recover from a traumatic event.

It is important to remember that children have their own special needs, so the counselling we provide is conducted in ways that cater to such needs. A child psychologist has to be tolerant, caring, compassionate, and completely understanding of the child’s current situation.

Please contact A Life Logic if you would like to speak to a child psychologist.
